Iain Chambers - The Eccentric Press

Interesting piece by quite a flexible composer Iain Chambers that works with the location of sound, founder of Langham Research Centre. His current lp is made up of sounds recorded in European countries through the project of archiving sounds from environment of industry and domesticity - Sounds of Changes.
Two sides of the coin and two symphonies comissionded by WDR Cologne and ABC Radio National Australia.
Side A - The Eccentric press starts with grim droning of Wuppertaler Schewbebahn Station in Germany - distant droning is then transitioned into rattling noises replaced by some harmonic sounds accompanied by other sources to create quite a dramatic narrative. It feels like giving the exact sound sources is the spoiling agent.
Side B transports you to a different domain with the sounds recorded in Sweden, Belgium, Poland and the UK. Almost 20 minutes of a master craft blending the amalgam of sounds into something of a higher frequency amalgam - the alchemy very carefully designed and conducted but with a swing of something larger than life concept.

Persistence of Sound
Iain Chambers
