CHRISTIAN WOLFF Preludes, Variations, Studies and Incidental Music performed by Philip Thomas

Christian Wolff born in Nice, France to German literary publishers Helen and Kurt Wolff  - famous for founding Pantheon Books publishing house after relocating to USA. He got acquainted with John Cage after giving him a copy of I Ching, published by Pantheon. He became American citizen in 1946. His piano teacher, Grete Sultan sent him over to John Cage to start classes. He became his associate and remained in his artistic circle ever since.
Philip Thomas who professes himself in experimental notated and improvised music - both solo and with Apartment House contributed to this beautifully released album on two cds with a booklet.
It shows Wolff as an accomplished composer in his full exploratory circle - it embraces a diversity of motoric passages, working with silence,  compositional fragmentation.
