Ekotonika: to get lost by Antenna Non Grata

 

Antenna Non Grata is not just a superb label but works quite often as a network of artists that have something quite interesting to offer and showcase.

Ekotonika is a duo of Mat Barski and Marcin Karczewski both instrumentalists who are always travelling between a few cities such as London, Cracow, Tri-City and Łódź. 

They act out as mature individualists who know their craft and they work sure shot paths of both composition and improvisation.

"to get lost" is quite a trip. On a level of classifying a genre - you can uneasily place it somewhere between improvised gritty experiment and repetitive ambient.  Released as a cd with pretty intriguing artwork both Mat and Marcin have somewhat limited their length of each tracks and modified their improvisation towards creating something that can easily be digested for a listener who is not necessarily trained in listening this type of music - it is accessible through and through.

There is a very deep undercurrent in this album which is very melancholic and can prompt some existential musings or thoughts but done in a refined and sophisticated way.

An album of musical and compositional maturity where detail and suspense is create easily but not easily forgotten. A space of time and music where many things can happen. Definitely on the list to look forward to some new releases.

Mat Barski - creates improvised, experimental, ambient music.

Plays electric guitar, effects kits, sampler. Associated with the Tricity and Krakow music scene. Selected projects: Ecotonics, The End, Rings of Saturn. He is a member of Cracow's Salt Storehouse Association and the art collective Sisters of the Rivers and Brothers of the Streams.

Marcin Karczewski - improvising musician and music producer associated with the London and Tricity music scene. In his projects he uses electronics in the broadest sense - digital synthesizers, samplers, guitar effects; he also plays bass and double bass.
