Molok Mun: L'orientation
Another fine release by Antenna Non Grata - this time a combo of Molok Mun from Toruń, Poland that consists of:
Rafał Kołacki/Dariusz Wojtaś/Dariusz Brzostek: electronics, gongs, cymbals, flutes, percussion, dulcimer, tapes, field recordings
Marek „Latarnik” Pędziwiatr: Piano (Nordiska, Vermona), synthesizer, drum
Anais Fourrier: voice, percussion
An interesting musical endeavour which is difficult to set under certain label which works only to its advantage. Definitely a voyage of ethnic drummery with a bit of almost new wave ambient via krautrock and modular psychedelic aspects. The electronic parts tend to have a bit more darker aspects. And they add up to the spoken word parts in French which turns out to be Jan Potocki „Voyages en Turquie et en Égypte fait en 1784” (1788). It has very dreamy and jazz ethnic atmosphere which sounds like a mystical raga - check third track.
A unique album that reminds me of soundtracks for Peter Weir's "The Last Wave" among many others and a bit of Herzogian Popol Vuh atmosphere but done in a way that it is not naive or dilletante copy but an actual ritual.
