A TONIC FOR THE TROOPS Ambush LP/CD Odin Records ODINCD9575
and what a nice surprise - a motoric modern jazz...
A quartet consisting of
Ellen Brekken – Bass
Espen Berg – Piano
Magnus Bakken – Saxophone
Magnus Sefaniassen Eide - Drums - definitely very hard working musicians who besides working really hard in various other projects don't take themselves too seriously hence the band name: "A tonic for the troops" originates in an old British saying from colonial times in India, where tonic was drunk to keep the malaria mosquito away and it did, according to Churchill, "save more lives than all British doctors". The tonic, also added to gin to make it less bitter, was truly the best medicine for the troops.
Great soundtrack for anything you fancy from energetic and talented musicians in the file of modern jazz with slight influences from ethnic music.
