Polish Composers Of The 20th Century by Marek Pospieszalski

A huge feat that Marek took creating this album takes a well- deserved respect. Double album where he uses the scores of such Polish modern composers as: Jan Krenz, Tadeusz Baird, Kazimierz Serocki, Tomasz Sikorski, Witold Szalonek, BogusΕ‚aw Schaeffer, Marek Stachowski, Andrzej Panufnik, Roman Palester, Zbigniew RudziΕ„ski, WΕ‚odzimierz KotoΕ„ski and Zygmunt Krauze to mention just a few.
The richness, imagination and inventive spirit of those compiled here is astounding. I was floored with it, exploring those composers again thanks to BoΕ‚t releases but also trying to find them on YT some years ago.
It is a compilation, yes. But in every other way - each of the 12 tracks is a separate entity, a different world which is a wonderful experience bearing in mind how those individuals shaped the face of modern composition in Poland. Power of sonoric and melodic aspect of those brings back the thoughts of how much was it difficult to become an original composer in different times, in different conditions without being self-depreciatory and idiosyncratic.
Marek and his ensemble take those compositions even further, thanks to their skills and talent but also knowing full well the context and having this unique ability to create something more than just music - an atmosphere, a field to reflect and ponder on the goldmine of ideas and sonic assemblages.
