Nocturnal Consolations by Iztok Koren & Raphael Rogiński

Restless and travelling spirits always find the way to meet each other. Raphael Rogiński is coming back with his new collaborative album which he recorded with Slovenian musician Iztok Koren.
A spirit of travel, communication of two cultures, meditation on life through understanding and valuing differences and observing passing time.
11 compositions which stem from a collaborative improvised sessions but have a very solid structure and create unambiguous,  nuanced polyphonies between both of them make me think of understanding the gist and all the most important elements of ethnic music but also transcending it through creating your own language how the music is composed and flows to fill in all the space that are in between what is visible and invisible, what stands between differences in understanding how you create harmony through progression, scales but also transcending those.
Music on ''Nocturnal Consolations'' stems from this understanding and musical knowledge on those topic which bind cultures together.
But in an individualistic way - it's a poetic tale where each of the tracks and the titles can be understood individually, as a tribute and personal understanding of how folk tales meander towards seeing them as allegories and representations of something that is only seemingly absent from life in those troubling times.
How much wisdom can you forage from it? Is there anything that you can grasp by understanding that harmonies stem from embracing all the elements of life and acknowledging that a tale is your own - reading old narratives always creates a brand new ones. Just give it a try!

The album was created through the collaboration of two instrumentalists seeking the ancient voice of their instruments alongside the sound of tomorrow. With sensitive attention to discovering the space for sound - both acoustically and ideologically - Raphael Roginski and Iztok Koren have created a polyphony of ever-changing sonic colours. This polyphony itself - as the idea of one encountering the other to build a platform - is the common denominator of their work. As enthusiasts of traditional music, they draw inspiration from it; yet, their goal is to make music for the modern human and create a universal sonic landscape.
