Venus er i håret by Espen Reinertsen
If you know Jenny Hval, Toshimaru Nakamura, Christian Wallumrød, Jennifer Walshe – you probably have heard about their collaborator – Espen Reinertsen.
He is coming back with a new album - Venus er i håret recorded with Erik Nylander -playing acoustic drums and Eivind Lønning on trumpet.
It is an interesting album with folk and even delicate jazz sensibility and profile but moved more towards experimental electronics and free jazz improvisation that has the softness of psychodelia thanks to Espen’s voice and wind instruments parts – flute especially. An experimental dream pop that will surprise you with detailed and sophisticated drumming and polyrhythmic accentuation.
The narrative on the album itself is non-linear hitting and breaking through linear – metaphorical and digressing from the main themes into something different.
If you like a bit of melancholy with poetry combined, but in a more sophisticated and un-obvious manner – then it is definitely an album for you.
Espen Reinertsen is deeply embedded in the creative music scene in Norway, performing with artists like Jenny Hval, Toshimaru Nakamura, Christian Wallumrød, Jennifer Walshe, and many more, in addition to offering his own exploratory pop compositions both solo and in collaboration.
'Venus er i håret' is his third solo record and it arrives about ten years after his second solo record was released via Susanna Wallumrød’s SusannaSonata label. Tender and powerful, 'Venus er i håret' is full of beautiful digressions and compositional trustfalls. Melancholic in the truest sense of the word, Reinertsen’s songs are ruminative, enveloping and uncanny.
