PHILIPPE PETIT - Descent into the Maelstrom
An experienced experimentator, Mr Philippe Petit whose usual choice of musical weapon is a turntable, here extends his language through a synth voyage into the unknown depths of Edgar Allan Poe's "A descent into maelstrom" - and quite literally it is a descent into something unknown - a Nietzchean gaze into abyss brings a very interesting result.
A dense soundscape of electronics radiates with mystery of 1950's and 1960's analogue synth equipment experimentation but there is so much more to it than just a whirlwind of sounds - it brings a pictoresque exploratory element to it that helps both to dwelve into the sublayered nautomancy of the material but also to be an active impersonator, a protagonist of sorts.
A mature statement of an artist who breaks his own limitations.
