Mädchen in schmutzigen Schürzen by Column One
Column One has been one of those extraordinary collectives, active for at least 30 decades that despite their output have been unfairly overlooked in the landscape of the modern underground experimental music landscape. They have been tirelessly releasing and creating works that go beyond any classification and help to understand what the true experimental power really is.
Their newest album comes in a beautiful black and white ecopack with the blu-ray disc and postcards - any fan would agree it is a pleasure to open and discover yourself.
It is a soundtrack for a movie that is on the blu ray.
The spectrum of sound sources on this album is incredibly wide: from preparations, vocal work, post-industrial droning, meditative ambience, all sorts of noises of different frequencies and field recorded sounds, clanging and banging of the found objects.
The undertaking might seem logistically huge but the whole personnel takes on the task that seems to be some sort of mundane work for them since they do it effortlessly, seamless stitching that has both sophistication and downright simplicity - a sign of a big mastery of their art.
Those little details make you want immediately come back to this work and listen to it again. It is wonderfully done and helps the listener to understand that the devil is in the details. The soundscape of it is its own narrative and if you add the video to it - that is a completely different area.
Dig it!
