ANTHONY PATERAS - Reise der Schatten

 

»Reise der Schatten« (»Journey of Shadows«) is the soundtrack to the eponymous debut feature-length animation film by Swiss artist Yves Netzhammer. Composed by Anthony Pateras and released as a stand-alone album through Hallow Ground.

It's an interesting album in ever dynamic discography of super active Anthony Pateras who does both solo and collaborative work. 

As a soundtrack - it does rely on short forms which is resulting in an album of 29 short tracks. Anthony is predominantly a pianist by profession and education but he is a great synthetist too which you can see on many of his albums. 

This album is an acoustic work with a huge array of musicians. Since this is an elaborate work of compositional art - there is lost of things going on in terms of style and approach that has more to do with an ensemble work. A nuanced and detailed work that Pateras has done here is just astounding and also a great break from a rhythm that we know of.

Multi-faceted and juggling with climaxes, climes and moods...that is something that makes you want to go back to.
