Jackie-O Motherfucker “Bloom”
The godfathers of freak folk, New Weird America are back with their new album.
Through all those year and different phases of their work they still hit the dynamic notes as ever. The best example probably is the track "The Strike" that blends both free jazz dynamics with motoric punk folk both experimental (guitar and sax) and melodic ( reeds and vocals and bass guitar).
There is no single note here that is unnecessary - they are mature musicians expressing themselves in any way they want.
The "folk" idiom is still around but expect punk energy and more free improvised attitude reigned by dynamic bass guitar and chords shunning this way and the other.
