Yonatan Gat: Universalists
World music has lost its soul to a shallow beat of new age music which invites the dispute how much of a genuine spirit is still there to "spiritual" ambient meditation music.
With Yonatan's music luckily this dilemma is redundant - due to many different reasons.
There are plenty of elements to this great material - opening samples of 1950's Genoa choir, First Nation's Native pow wow singing and drumming from Rhode Island, Mallorcan singer - Catalina Meute, Balinese music as well...
But the temperature of this album is mostly by fiery, jammy guitar tones along with dynamic yet subtle arrangements of Yonatan. It keeps you focused and through the melodies and a rare combination of different ethnic elements it helps to keep an imprint for weeks. Great album!
