The Phoenix (ALRN082) by Pas Musique
Pas Musique is to me somewhat of a self-established legend. Ever evolving and a chameleon of sound and magick brings so many influences as different people involved in the project. They are based in Brooklyn, NYC but tour extensively every year and come back with fresh ideas.
The base of their dough is a free approach to post-industrial, shamanic, jazzy and post-rockish(?) tribal beat music. But there are many other traits to this fruitcake, much more than we can expect.
They come back with a new album which blends all those tones and tails and sounds with some new experiences they had since they toured in Indonesia in 2016 and Europe in 2017.
The Phoenix is an album that is strategically composed as it may be looked at from the angle of post-techno beat base and a mystical aspect of the textures it has. The transparent beat structure is one thing but the other is the background in the musical surrealism, instrumental improvisations that blend here nicely and the voiceovers who introduce neat narrative - makes you think of many influences from late 80's and 90's post-industrial acts.
But this album bears something else, something more elusive, something more than it is supposed to be.
It's about decoding some secret in your mind, in understanding yourself and getting a grip with seeing reality in wider sense. This aspect makes this album a good travelling companion to a truly mind bending psychodelic voyage - where you are the captain...
