HOLZWEG by Forest Factory
What a beautiful project that has dynamics and inventiveness that help you to feel that a mere experiment is not a case when you have two genuinely creative and enthusiastic individuals who actually want to put their message across.
Released as a vinyl and a DL by Japanese Ato.archives based in Tokyo is a debut album by Elvin and Andreas, recorded in Yogyakarta 2 years ago.
I was a little bit afraid to use the idiom: turntablism but turntables – self-made ones are one of the instruments used here, masterfully, wildly and in a way that could put into shame many.
Agitated, high-on compositions which sound like orchestrated sonic catapults into something and somewhat individualistically driven worlds of surrealism and frenetic assemblage. Along with voices and samplers, they create and otherworldly jungle of noise, plunderphonic hecticness that is just impossible to mistake for something else.
Forest Factory is the duo of fellow nomads Elvin Brandhi and Andreas Trobollowitsch.
Each using self-made turntables, sampler and voice to create a unique acoustic repertoire, suffusing computational and organic tonalities. Their vinyl debut HOLZWEG is a compositional amalgamation of recording sessions made in diverse ecosystems: Auditorium Novecento, Naples (2023), Ruang MES 56, Yogyakarta (2024), and their Japan tour in 2024.
Redefining themselves in a range of contexts lends fluidity and plurality to the topology of their aesthetic.
