Brion Gysin: His Name Was Master - Texts and Interviews by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge - with Peter Christopherson

Brion Gysin has a special place in the history of the counter cultural heritage. A man of re-inventing yourself, a man of many talents turned into new discoveries and also a man of mystery - a human conondrum of sorts.
TRAPARTbooks run by Carl Abrahamsson is bringing the memories of a man once again in a very lively and evocative form of interviews with him, done by another living legend Throbbing Gristle's, and PTV's Genesis P-Orridge.
Gysin together with his friend, Paul Bowles created this special sort of romantic vision of an outcast beatnik life in Morocco, that has been a constant source of inspiration for many. A person that could create the singular vision that involved so many different aspects. A cult figure in many dimensions: gay community, communities prone to experiment with psychodelics and innovative art techniques and many others.
He was re-discovered at least couple of times during his life time, this great book is an evidence of how the author of the interview - P-Orridge, who himself transgressed many boundaries in the music and art world - reinvented Gysin for himself and the world of post-industrial and new wave culture.
An elusiveness brought in a form of an eloquent raconteurs' dialogue is a display of anecdotal knowledge of the world that has passed away. Even the side texts of introduction and annotations bring great way to get to know both of them.
The vision of forgone layers that build today's culture, even the mainstream one, are not difficult to perceive easily after reading this book. With respect and attentiveness, without the self-inflated ego tactics, both Brion and Genesis invite us to self-discovery and experimentation.
On the other hand - this long interview with annotations are great documentation for reference and insightful trip to things that may seem obvious.
