Hotel Bravo by Rapoon
The newest album by Robin Storey's project - Rapoon comes back after a bit of a break to Zoharum catalogue.
As with many of Rapoon's releases it's pretty obvious to classify the album according to what might be a guideline that we can use to market his music.
But Hotel Bravo is an interesting point, not necessarily a breaking point to see that there is more to peaceful ambient sounds that it might just seem on the outside.
First track is introducing a spoken word narrative to electronic sounds that is somewhat of a positive surprise and makes it more intimate to dip yourself into the rest of the intriguing contents.
Second track is quite subtly unnerving track with a rhythmical loop that joins the first track with the third one - For a few sitars more - which has a deeply melancholic Eastern flair.
Oyamma brings some vocalisation and soft piano punctures that have little to do with ambient but very much so of a regular song structure - dreamy and comprehensive enough at the same time.
A much needed relief - that's what this album brings but in an interesting, intriguing way.
A self-made idiom of reflective musical poetry - unassuming and not pretense at all - seems like a word of perenial philosophy that won't get outdated in years to come.
A dependable, steady source of musical and artistic inspiration. Thank you, Robin!
