Cyberpunisher by Hypnoskull

Patrick Stevens who is responsible for Hyponoskull have been active since early 1990's. This re-release of his cassette that has long been out of print brings back the flavour of experimental post-industrial with lots of other elements.
First thing you may notice is that although the whole material is labelled under ''post-industrial'' it has this free form attitude of creating dark atmosphere through any means available. You could call it a cinematic DIY but I would add - it's a maverick attitude of someone who creates art more consciously, through understanding it on a multi-levels of comprehending art process. Patrick Stevens is definitely one of those artists.
When I first listened to it, I had a glimpse of an intuitive feeling that I am dealing with someone who accessed lots of different ways of perceiving the whole compositional process and in turn we are receiving an album that is both mature and caught an important moment in the history of the underground experimental music - just before Pro Tools, and before even more moving into easy digital sequencing.
It's difficult to categorize and label Cyberpunisher - to its advantage. You have ''techno'', more rhythmic elements to it. You have aspects of electronic debris, there are parts where you feel movie-like moments where human voice and screams are being used. There is minimalism in its abrasive form, there is raw production which works even more than just fine.
And above it all there is an important element of experimentation - learning through trial and error. The DIY spirit in its most honest form.
Excellent album which should be presented even on educational level.
