Amy Denio: PANDEMONIUM
One of the newest albums of inexhaustible Amy Denio released on 1st of June as always strikes with the harmonious touch of excellence in every single note.
Recorded over the period of 15 months of Covid 19 induced isolation is actually a notebook of occurences, events, people, places and changes that Amy has experienced in the past. It's a collection of songs but not random. It is wisely organized and thanks to all the instrumentalists involved it helps to understand the world of her collaborative work and the nature of her own style...which is difficult to understand, embrace and even more difficult to label.
Over the years she has tapped to so many different musical styles that now, all those come together so effortlessly that at some point I have had a feeling of Amy Denio radio music in the best possible way.
The blend of jazz, ethnic music, improvisation, motoric feel to it that is achieved not necessarily through bits that we normally associate with rock music, yet, in its own it is heavily punctuated by rhythmical value of bass guitar.
Poly-rhythmical puzzle, excellent vocal harmonies that stay with you for so long that you want to come back to it and first and foremost - the lightness of how she works through all the details and nuances is just astounding.
Especially if you look beyond the foreground arrangements and dive into quite experimental background.
Some of the tracks here were remixed from the pieces pieces originally commissioned for Nonsequitur's Wayward in Limbo streaming audio series, and from the album Amy Denio: Corona Sonora.
