Demos, Late Spring 2024 by Hana Korneti

Thanatosis is a small independent label founded in 2016, releasing a wide range of experimental music. mostly music with minimalist leanings, and linear, slow-moving and often rather low-key and sombre qualities; music for both deep and shallow listening.

This album by Hana Korneti is a beautiful album that you can read as a book. Full of poetry, nuances and colour that is rare and not trivial.

Hana, 1982 originally born in Skopje, Macedonia, brings a unique blend of singer songwriter sensitivity and an awareness of how deeply experimental and yet classical can her songs be, resulting in somewhat deep and profound existential blend.

“Demos, Late Spring 2024” collects three intimate recordings from May and June 2024, capturing a fleeting, moody moment in the Skopje-based singer-songwriter’s life. Guided by the principle if you don’t have anything to say, don’t speak, these months became a time for quiet reflection expressed through music.

The EP is romantic yet anti-romantic, minimalist yet deeply expressive, and lo-fi by design. Recorded on a phone and treated through analog tape, its imperfections gain warmth and texture. Piano and ukulele drift slightly out of tune, phrases arrive a moment late, vocals wander, and background sounds—from creaky doors to passing motorcycles—remind listeners that nothing here is overproduced or too polished.

The songs themselves traverse a range of emotional landscapes. In “Папратов цвет / Fern Flower”, devotion and longing intertwine, exploring the tension between giving oneself to another and preserving one’s own sense of self. “Оваа песна не е песна / This Song is Not a Song” channels raw, untamed energy, a nocturnal journey of fire and longing tempered by the quiet hope of calm water. And in “Прашина / Dust”, memory and absence linger, the residue of experience almost tangible, echoing long after the music ends.

Together, these demos form a cohesive, visceral expression. Thoughtful lyrics, intimate performances, and the textured warmth of analog tape create a soundscape that feels immediate, unfiltered, and deeply human. “Demos, Late Spring 2024” is not about perfection—it is about presence, reflection, and finding alignment with the inner world through music.

Hana Korneti (b. 1992, Skopje) is a writer and musician whose work spans literature, sound, and the quietly transformative spaces of everyday life. She is the author of six books, including a collaborative work of nonfiction on community gardening, two short story collections for adults, two fantasy novels for children, and a picture book reflecting on the fragile state of rivers and the environment.

Korneti’s writing is noted for its understated humor, emotional precision, and attention to the relationships between people, place, and ecology. Her creative practice often extends beyond the page, drawing con-nections between storytelling, sound, and the natural world.

As a musician, she released her first LP with the independent record label Sharla and continues to ex-plore lo-fi and ambient forms in her home studio. This EP captures an intimate moment of transition and experimentation. She is currently at work on her second full-length album.

When not writing or recording, she can often be found tending to her garden—where dill, mint, and to-matoes thrive or perish in equal measure.
