Eva Lanche: Concert Tribute to Laura Brooks by Antenna Non Grata

Another great release from Antenna Non Grata. This time a Canadian Polish artist Eva Lanche with an album that is somewhat of a concept album. Divided into six stages - tracks that tell the story of different parts of life.
Musically it is a welcome stray from quite an experimental density that Antenna Non Grata normally serves but in a positive way. There is lots of tonality here with a nice set of soundscapes and cinematic moods. It is partly thanks to the a beautiful amalgam that the musicians involved here present - an acoustic set with a pinch of electronics.
It is a nice little trip into the parts of reflective aspect of a music journal that happens to be nicely composed and assembled through, I am sure, a hard work.
Illustrative and softly poetic addition to an already great catalogue.

The album is a musical story about life divided into six stages: from birth through childhood, adolescence, maturity, decline, and eschatological climax. The creative process utilized a unique combination of acoustic instruments—cymbals, handpan, hamgam, shruti box, drums, percussion, and kalimba fx—seasoned with electronics. The participation of invited guests from Poland and Ukraine—Sofia Bascakova (vocals), Alan Balcerowski (saxophone), and Ireneusz Bratz (double bass)—played a significant role in the final sound of the material. The album, "Concert Tribute to Laura Brooks," is the result of a search for appropriate means of expression that sonically illustrate and highlight both the ordinary and the unique.

Eva Lanche – Canadian sound artist with Polish roots. Her main area of interest is the correspondence between the sounds of acoustic instruments, electronics, and prepared sound objects. In her work, she strives for a balance between the melodic and the rhythmic. She has used cymbals, handpan, percussion, hamgam, shruti box, kalimba fx, and electronic sauces. She also made field recordings. During one of her sound expeditions in the Bieszczady Mountains, she mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind sketches of unrecorded compositions. The album "Concert Tribute to Laura Brooks" is an attempt to recreate her musical philosophy. The project was created by Marcin Karnowski – drummer, instrumentalist, lyricist, cultural animator, poet, prose writer, and screenwriter. He has played in bands and projects such as Variete, 3moonboys, Ala Kryształ, George Dorn Screams, Małomiejsca, Brda, Ur Jorge, Salimara, Hanowska/Karnowski, and Gumowska/Karnowski. A member of the Okomózgowa Festival Orchestra, his oeuvre includes over 20 albums recorded with various artists (mentioned above) and over 200 concerts in Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Italy, Norway, Iceland, Lithuania, and Ireland. He is the author of the radio plays "Maps of Time" about Anna Jachnina, "Travels with a Donkey Through the Cévennes Mountains" (with Joanna Roś) based on essays by R. L. Stevenson, and "The Phonographic Darkroom." With Ilona Gumowska, he directed the short film "Spark Only," which won awards at short film festivals in San Francisco (San Francisco Indie Short Festival), Berlin (Berlin Shorts Award), and Paris (Paris International Short Festival). He has received multiple scholarships from the city of Bydgoszcz, a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and an award from the Mayor of Bydgoszcz for promoting musical culture.
