Air Pressure by Philip Samartzis and Michael Vorfeld
Field recordings by formula is a site-specific form of audio art but when you put it into a specific context it gains a lot of value as a standalone unit and sensitivity of the person recording.
It hasn't been differently in the case of Philip and Michael who strung up together to create a sonic space of field recorded sounds (Samartzis) and percussion as well as self-designed instruments (Vorfeld).
The result is both stunning and a grandiose. A carefully chosen spaces - in Eastern Antarctica which inspired Michael Vorfeld to work with his instruments and create a symbiotic being with what Philip Samartzis offered.
A sense of alienation and isolation that those records emanate is overwhelming and large scale - a context of manmade architecture and its structures in connection and juxtaposition of unforgiving and harsh natural environmental conditions.
A must-listen of this year.
