Purgist - Image of a woman ep
Purgist brings up his newest ep in a special package and even more special imagery by Paulina Adaszek. Her image of a distorted nude is looming out a properly haunted feeling that the music from Dawid's cassette empowers and highlights.
The material starts with humping and bumping field recorded (?) noise that is slowly evolving towards a sinister but somewhat cosy ambience of drone and even melody with aspects of illustrative tones, nicely broken by some concrete sounds. But most of all it feels very human, pixellated emotions flow as if you could easily touch them. The desolate choir of dissociated bits that slowly are overtaken by a storm of disturbance in the matter of (non)musical texture.
"Harmony in stone: gives me almost a feel of noughties error glitchy aesthetics but put into the context of something larger and again with using lots of concrete sounds it makes it feel as if the actual texture has the fluency of ether - it is flexible enough and absorbent to contain straining outbursts of noise. Very well produced too.
"Get the fuck away from me" is almost a chillwave sound transposed to the world of musique concrete/cut-up harsh noise. It gives both chills and feels a great soundtrack to a nervous breakdown aftermath.
"I saw the strangest light" brings up the sinister droney flava - the texture of a hot liquid tar that basically wipes out all. Its suffocating and distressed mood tramples you to the ground.
Reprise of "Please, please, please get the fuck away from me" amplifies it to the point of confusion.
Dawid's work can be viewed from different perspectives - it has an edge of hi-fi craftsmanship with no unnecessary verses. You can read between those verses asking yourself how much emotional intensity does it contain. For me it was quite a spiritual journey inwards and very intellectually stimulating, too.
