HECKER / OKKYUNG LEE Statistique Synthétique / Teum (the Silvery Slit) LP GRM Portraits SPGRM003
An intense combo of Okkyung Lee cello explorations with Hecker electronic voyage into never-never land of limbo and suspension.
A new vinyl record from both artists sharing the bill and sides of the album brings the weight of synthesis and experience of electroacoustic music into something that cannot really be labelled easily. The boundaries between those two characters are flexible and the sound art here is elevated to somewhat deeper understanding of the narrative - music that can be both illustratory and can exist on its own terms. Hecker's electronic landscape is a free form of noisy glitchy soundscapism but it always evades the triviality - it has both density and dramatism that is not frequent. Okkyung Lee on the other hand is a poet of her instrument - it becomes a weapon of uncolloquial mass distraction. It is a fusion of subatomic particle storm that is rarely a good idea to mess with and definitely a story that was told and can be re-told by listening to it again. A high class clash of two titans.
