Fallen - Ljós
Lorenzo Brancaloni is coming back with his new Fallen album. Ljós comes out as a humble cassette release on a Rohs! records. In a neutral monochrome colours, cover is inviting us to look at the contents with eyes wide shut to feel the depth of Fallen's music.
As always quite a professional production, hi-end mastering is only a good background to highly illustrative ambient music.
With tonalities of a very serene soundscape, Lorenzo doesn't avoid inventiveness and quite touching melancholic outings. With minimalism and density of his tracks - vide "Spiragli" you can easily find a blend of modern electronic ambient music and minimalism a'la Terry Riley. But it's never done as a plagiarism and always with sense of musical poetry in mind.
You have also quite grim and evocative parts as in "Ricordo Dolce" intertwined with lighter touch of a climax in "Visita Inaspettata".
A nicely balanced album with a brush of drama, hues and shades of different musical moods, can be used both as a compromise between experimental and easy-listening but first and foremost as a pleasure to listen.
