Same Suki - Dziadoskie piosenki o miłości

There hasn't been a band or ensemble I have listened in a long while that balanced in an equal way: lyrics, and narratives in them, vocal and instrumental professionalism and artistic vision. And here we go...poof! - Same Suki.

I knew these women before and their version of folk/ethnic music with jazz and blues background, inspirations from native Polish music were excellent. But this album is a mature, more toned emphasis of their stable vision - a position which I feel they might perceive as somewhat of a breakthrough.

The line-up has changed as now we have Magda, Helena and Karol. The arrangements are somewhat more organic and minimalistic but only on the outside - they are more of the rich background where every detail counts and they are an excellent outlet for Magda and Helena's vocal master's class.

Ethnic music with a jazz and even swing are most suited way to convey stories of love and loss, narratives of womanhood and intimacy.

Recorded in an old wooden cottage, it has some sort of lo-fi feel to it - more naturalistic and aesthetically more obscure in a way. It is a quite feat to use it to your own advantage and put some serious harmony.

After 10 years of band's lifespan, there is a specific equation and sums that need to be done. It couldn't be done in a better way.

Looking forward to the next episode.
