Zatoka Białych Niedźwiedzi by Łubin (Kołacki / Kaźmierski)
Rafał Kołacki/ electronics with Grzegorz Kaźmierski/ guitar bring to us a newest album of Łubin - Zatoka Białych Niedźwiedzi.
Even the title which is a geographical name of a bay in Svalbard instantly bring certain sort of sonic and meteorological associations. And rightly so even despite the fact that the contents of this cd is far from being a naive cliche of those easily set associations but rather experiment and dig deeper beneath the surface of something easily recognizable.
There is lots of field recording utilised here - but to the point that you think twice before judging what is an actual synth pad, effects loop or a drone made out processed field recorded sample.
The composition is pretty simplistic on the outside but I would rather tend to agree with the notion that it is more of a clean-cut, well produce and wisely composed set of tracks based not only on field recorded sets but foremostly on guitar and great deal of electronics. It is never overdone, never overlayered, which sets you straight onto the track when it comes to musical narrative.
It never falls into the narrow classification of some sort of musical genre but it is an open chest of surprises which both of the storytellers here lead into a very interesting terrains without any pressure or pretense. It is a sound art but not stained by academical patronizing - it's dense, deep and engaged. Well done!
