Back to the Island by Mirt

Tomek Mirt who has quite effortlessly ( and I don't mean the actual effort and huge amounts of work he has put into over two decades of his musical activity which is quite frankly astounding and massively impressive) leaping into different pools of approaches in his work, has published a new set of field recorded tracks from Tarutao Island -Thai: เกาะตะรุเตา - one of the most unspoilt regions in  south parts of Thailand which offers a fair amount of intricacy and positive sonic surprise.
10 carefully selected tracks which encompass a diversity of sounds from the waves, to cicadas, langurs, and bird calls.
The immensity of this sonic ecosystem is just impossible. As I was plunging into this - it felt immensely composed as a whole - a system which doesn't disqualify anything but promotes interaction and mutual immersion. It teaches you a lot about how ecology works in the real world and makes you appreciate such places even more. Not from the consumeristic point of view but from a point of view of somewhat self-creating, in-the-process experience that goes beyond spirituality but prompts reflections on being a small part of something larger than ourselves,
It's both educational and curiosity-encouraging. Hopefully Tomek will open his vast archive and release more of the quality stuff that he has recorded there.

Recorded on Tarutao Island, February 2024.

Tracks 01, 02, 04 and 10 recorded with Zoom F3 and Sennheiser MKH8020 omnidirectional microphones, using AB stereo technique. Tracks 03, 05-09 are drop rig recordings made with no human presence, using Zoom F3 and DIY omnidirectional microphones based on Primo 272 capsules.
