World Why Web by Kabaal
A latest work by Belgian artist and a drummer Jakob Warmenbol is a little piece of art that is pulsating with a freaky plasma of beautiful outbursts of creative energy.
One one hand - impulsively driven by error and glitch in terms of electronics, could remind you of a more austere and obscure side of Rephlex Records or frenzy of Aaron Funk, on the other hand - a live drum set with pop sensitivity and grotesque that only The Residents could match.
It is a debut album but immediately takes you away only after the first opening track. There is lots of nuances both in Jakob's play but also how freely he approaches the composition and how it affects him - this constant feedback loop is very important.
We have here both improvisational spirit but more in the style of guerrilla warfare with genres and solidity of the narrative. Add pretty anarchic and wild sense of humour to it and that is a recipe of something exceptional in any way. I can't wait for his next step. But for now, let's enjoy this beautifully published vinyl.
