El Jardín de las Matemáticas
Transcontinental collaboration between Alvaro Daguer, Pablo Picco, Tomás Salvatierra & Mark Harwood has been released on the Penultimate Press on a beautifully designed vinyl.
Seven tracks which through free form approach as we as variety of instruments used is an interesting transition towards psychodelic ethnic improvisation but definitely strung towards somewhat obscure and trance vibe.
Noisy and electroacoustic improvisations are enriched by a tiny bits of electronics which makes them sounds double extra fresh, refreshingly enough that it makes you think of both influences such as Don Cherry and even more abstract such as Smegma or No Neck Blues Band to take those who are more known and prominent.
As a musical experience it definitely touches a grey area of group improvisation with an exotic vibe of South American ethnic influences but also merges subtle electronic waves of sound that are not invasive and never take over. A intimate trip of discovery and juxtaposition of quasi naive music and abrasive noisy improvisations as well as something primeval and unpolished, wild. A typo in a self-correct digital culture that is both an interjection and a break from everything that is formatted to consume. It also takes you away from stereotyping anything that is truly not mainstream in terms of ethnicity and culture.
Curated by ever excellent Penultimate Press run by Mark Harwood.
