MOVEMENT THREE by THAT'S HOW I FIGHT
That's How I Fight is an interesting project that some of the members I have already known from other bands (RongWrong, Titanic Sea Moon, Ewa Braun among others).
It's their third movement and as far as I know the fifth official release.
This time it is released on a vinyl with great, colourful, dreamy cover.
Where would I place That's How I Fight musically is a not an easy task. On one hand you have subtle, glitchy ambient harmonies as in the first track here - meditative and full of undergoing tension. Quite static in terms of dynamics. It reminds me a bit of post rock way of composing just like with Labradford and Pan American but with more post-industrial edge to it, way to buzzy to call it a clean and smooth textures that early 00's post rock would welcome to its directory.
Second track on the album opens up to a more cinematic spheres with the synth theme that brings more and more tension, growing up with reverberating and repeated textures that are becoming more noisy and could easily be used by any of the guitar experimentalists e.g. Glenn Branca or Richard Pinhas that is brought to an abrupt and dramatic end.
Last track is a meditation in a bit tribalistic style thanks to drums. Again - pretty linear and of cinematic scope.
Bringing different sensibilities and sensitivities together is always a good idea. The pairing of people who have such wide experience in terms of music is nothing short of spectacular and although I am always very wary and a bit economical with enthusiasm as to how I can appreciate such musical meetings - in this case it's worked pretty well and the contents is tight. Hopefully they will not run out of ideas to move on swiftly to another chapter.
