CHARLES JOSEPH SMITH- The Electroacoustics Come Out by No Sides Records

 

A long and dense study of piano by quite an accomplished Charles Joseph Smith released on a cassette by invaluable No Sides Records.

It is  inspired by the work of 20th century composer and electronic instrument inventor Salvatore Martirano.

A double length album which covers so many different areas of experimentation just flows through you cascading through percussive passages where you have a lot of forte and staccato. Some melodies and patterns swirling through the ocean of sounds. And there are moments where all this stops for a second only to be picked up and driven to some new place.

It is classical music - but not as you can imagine - there is lots of really down to earth ideas with a voice, tape and some pretty unprocessed synth beats.

It never ceases to amaze but also the tempo of this album is just incredible. Kudos to Mr Smith who never ceases to amaze and stop.
