A truly epic album from two absolute giants.
Reinhold Friedl whose work with Zeitkratzer is crossing boundaries is known for his unique piano sound, advanced techniques, musical intensity paired with precision as well as consistent compositional thinking. He cooperated with musicians from Phill Niblock to Lou Reed, Mario Bertoncini (Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza) to Whitehouse, Laurie Anderson to Rashad Becker and works as guest professor at various universities across Europe. The “multi-talented renaissance man” (as Naut Human turned it) is also known as a specialist for Iannis Xenakis, and curates the Perihel series on Karlrecords.
Vienna-based Martin Siewert, an innovative guitar player and producer in groups like Radian or Trapist. Martin Siewert played with the who is who in experimental and improvised music and excelled in many international collaborations with such luminaries as Otomo Yoshihide, Oren Ambarchi, Meg Stuart to Christian Fennesz, Sainkho Namtchylak to The Necks. Siewert’s guitar plays at the intersection of acoustic / electronic generated sounds is unique, evoking echoes of krautrock and musique concrete to electronic jazz and avantgarde.
Their new album is some consistent piece of electroacoustic work. It shoots you with a great time frame - which is important in this genre. The other great thing is the skill which helps both of them to create a substantial tissue of the musical organism - there is simply no unnecessary sound in the whole set up of layers and nuances here.
The whole album is condensed and well -put together. It can be used as a separate piece of even used as a soundtrack for a theatre or anything that could be illustrative and background in a positive sense.
It is one of those testimonies of true talent and great musical skill as well as something that gives you an idea how much important is it to listen to each other when you are working in a duo.
